MBTA Commuter: Boston – Framingham/Worcester Line

A gorgeous route with some fantastic variety in scenery & gameplay. This was a really fun route to work on!

What have I done?

  • Route ambience for the entire route, collectibles, etc.

CTC-3 cab & passenger car overhaul.

  • New internal & external running sounds

  • New internal & external joint / junction sounds

  • New internal & external brake air sounds

  • New door & trap door sounds

  • New cab control sounds

  • Re-mixed sounds

  • New cab heater sounds & logic WOW!

Church bells:

I noticed some of the churches on the route played a little melody before the hour chime & at 15 minute intervals. Altough church bells have been in the game forever, I decided to overhaul the blueprint to allow for this slightly more advanced function. I was also able to fix a few long-standing minor bugs that the original version had.

There's quite a few churches along the route, Natick Center has one in view of the station. Here's a little clip of the new bell blueprint!

Baseball field:

Baseball's huge in Boston, their team being the Red Sox. I thought it would be cool to develop a new blueprint that would be completely dynamic, piecing together the sounds of a baseball game on-the-fly aswell as reacting to rain, etc.

The system decides if a a shot is a hit or a miss. If it's a hit, it'll decide whether it was a homerun. If not, it'll decide how long the batter runs for before being stopped. If it's decided to be a miss, you hear the umpire shout strike 1. If they miss again, strike 2. Then again, and you'll hear them shout strike 3, you're out!

There's even an announcer that I created for the larger stadiums on the route. They pretty much just exclaim stuff for hits and homeruns but also announce paused play due to rain or resumed play after rain. It was pretty fun to develop & hopefully a nice detail!
