Great Western Express Remaster
From the oldest, to the newest!
Following on from the West Somerset Railway Remaster, Liam's done a fantastic job remastering the Great Western Express route visuals & timetable.
I've had a lot of fun overhauling the audio for this route, adding in some of my favourite Train Sim World 6 audio features!
What have I done?
Full route audio overhaul:
Similar to West Somerset Railway, But on a much larger & more ambitious scale.
-
Fully replaced tile ambience:
I've replaced all of the tile ambience with some fresh, new ambience. With more layers & dynamic elements which shift based on the time of day, weather & season. Basically what we expect now, but the original GWE sounds were using a far less advanced system to what we use now
-
Tunnel & bridge noise
That whoosh sound as you pass through tunnels/bridges. It's pretty common in our routes these days.
-
Canopy rain
The sound of rain hitting station rooves & canopies, another standard feature that we use in our other routes
-
Tree wind & birds
The sounds of wind, rain & the occasional bird coming from the trees. Although I've updated the tech slightly to stop the bird sound following you when it gets triggered. It'll now remain in the place the sound originally triggered in
-
Bin day
This route's completely unncessary feature is bin day sounds! I recorded a bin lorry that was going down my street, so figured why not re-create that in-game. You'll hear the bin lorry slowly working its way down a street behind some buildings as it picks up virtual bins along the way!
I've scattered these at random locations along the route, and yes, I made it so the bin lorry sounds only play on the correct bin collection days for the postcode of the area in-game.
-
Drain rain
There are some trackside drains along the route which I've added the sound of rushing water to during & after rain. There's an open & closed cover varient with matching sounds. See if you can spot them!
-
House alarms
I think I placed like 3 of these along the route. Once again, just happened to record this from the street I live of. Got a close and far perspective which they blend between based on distance. Very low % chance of triggering though & it doesn't play for that long. Thought it would be cool detail to try out!
-
Implemented the new announcement system
It wouldn't be a TSW6 route without one of my favourite features! I've implemented the announcement system to all stations, researching which platforms at each, historically, used the Rodger/Anne voice.
I also added mind the gap announcements to Ealing broadway, Royal Oak (Westbound) & Westbourne park (Eastbound)
-
Something I've been wanting for a long time
But I'm not going to say yet, because that's funnier. You'll find out eventually though
-
New Paddington ambience
I've created a new custom ambience for Paddington station that sounds nice & busy. I made good use of my transmit-receive blueprint to add various luggage cart moving beeps play from random locations at the back of the station
-
New Paddington reverb & mix
I've created a new mix & reverb for Paddington which boosts engine noise slightly and adds a whole lot of reverb to everything inside. Horns & announcements sound incredible!
-
New safety announcements
Integrated into the new announcement system, but unused until now. I listened to a load of announcements from the era & recreated them using the matching in-game announcer voices for Anne & Rodger. One cool detail I added was that, for the lost luggage announcement that plays at the stations, Paddington has an alternate version which mentions the location and open times of the lost luggage office found at the station!
-
Sounds for collectibles
I've created some sounds for when you collect the pre-existing collectibles on the route, similar to what we do on our current routes,
-
Refreshed mastery audio
I've updated the sounds for the mastery to improve the quality of the sounds. Just incase anyone doesn't know what the mastery is, I'll leave it at that for details.
Rollingstock audio tweaks:
All stock from Great Western Express & The Diesel Legends of the Great Western DLC have seen mixing improvements, tweaks & fixes. Plenty of new horn edits & maybe even a couple of new horns & whistles that found in the original recordings that went unused!
Class 66 (DBS & EWS) - Completely replaced audio to match the PBO Class 66
Class 43 HST & MK3s - Horn tweaks, internal & external mix tweaks, INT & EXT toilet flush noise. Passenger ambience & optional announcements
Class 166 - New internal & external mix, New horn sounds with improved transitions. Passenger ambience & announcements. Added the "Do not try to board or leave the train when the doors are closing" announcement.
Class 101 - Re-edited original horn & edited a completely different horn from the same loco that went unused that plays from the opposite end of the loco (To match the 101 they recorded IRL). Implemented passenger ambience & optional announcements
Class 08 BR Blue - Tweaked the internal mix, re-edited the original whistle & added 4 additional variations (Including an unused recording from a session at the National Rail Museum)
Class 52 - Ported over the changes I made to the WSR Class 52 to the GWB Class 52 so they match
MK2s - Implemented passenger ambience & optional announcements
IOW Class 484 (Timetable layer) - Fixed an issue which was causing the door air hiss to be heard from very far away, while inside the cab of another loco
